Using e-cadherin and vimentin for the selection of patients who respond to treatment

A method for evaluating a patient with cancer to treatment with an inhibitor of the enzyme which uses glutamine or an agent that depletes glutamine, the method comprising: evaluating a sample of a patient, wherein the sample is evaluated for i ) the expression level of E-cadherin compared to a standard reference or ii) the level of expression of vimentin in comparison to a reference standard; and determining the patient treated with the enzyme inhibitor which uses glutamine or agent that depletes the glutamine if the sample is further characterized by i) a low level of expression of E-cadherin compared to a reference standard, and ii) a high level expression of vimentin in comparison to a reference standard.
