A radiocommunication system comprising a transmitter (4) and a receiver (5); wherein the transmitter (4) is configured to: - generate or receive digital symbols that have a given symbol rate associated with a corresponding symbol period; - generate, each S digital symbols generated / received, one: respective multimode digital signal, which has a predefined duration of time shorter than S times the symbol period, which is sampled with a predefined sampling rate higher than the rate of Symbols and that conveys said S digital symbols by means of a plurality of orthogonal harmonic modes comprising - a main mode that is a real harmonic mode and conveys P of said S digital symbols, and - one or more secondary modes carrying the other SP digital symbols , each secondary mode being a complex harmonic mode displaced in time by half of the symbol period with respect to the main mode; and - transmitting a radio frequency signal that carries a sequence of the generated multimode digital signals; wherein S is an integer greater than three and P is an integer less than S; and wherein the receiver (5) is configured to: - receive the radio frequency signal transmitted by the transmitter (4); - process the received radio frequency signal to obtain a corresponding incoming digital signal; and - extracting, from successive non-overlapping parts of the incoming digital signal sampled with the predefined sampling rate, the S digital symbols transported respectively by each part of the incoming digital signal by means of the orthogonal harmonic modes; wherein each of the successive, non-overlapping parts of the incoming digital signal has the predefined duration of time.
