A communication procedure through a wireless medium by means of a wireless communication apparatus within a network configured with periodic discovery windows (402), and the network having a size for a maximum number of devices M, the procedure comprising: determining ( 1402) a discovery window interval K, the smallest integer greater than or equal to one, such that the probability that more than one threshold M of devices transmit during the same discovery window (402) is less than a probability threshold P; selecting (1404) a random or pseudo-random integer m in the range from or to K-1; determine a setting b = max (o, (Km-1-c)), in which m-1 comprises an integer m calculated for a previous transmission, and c comprises a number of discovery windows (402) that have elapsed from the previous broadcast; deferring (1406) for b + m discovery windows after a previous K- interval has elapsed; and transmitting (1408) a discovery frame during the next discovery window after said deferral.
