A procedure implemented in a wireless communication system with multiple inputs and multiple outputs, MIMO; comprising: determining (725) a quality metric for each of a plurality of data flows in a first station; determine (730) a condensed quality metric in the first station based on the quality metric for each of the plurality of data streams, with the condensed quality metric comprising a reference quality metric and a delta quality metric , in which the quality metric for each data flow comprises a signal-to-noise ratio, SNR, in which the condensed quality metric is represented by a reference SNR value and a value of ΔSNR, where the value of Reference SNR corresponds to the SNR of a first decoded data stream, and the value of ΔSNR corresponds to the difference between the SNR values of successive data streams; transmit (735) the condensed quality metric from the first station to a second station; receiving the plurality of data streams from the second station through a plurality of MIMO channels, in which each data stream is received over the entire plurality of MIMO channels and encoded according to a data rate for the given data stream based on the condensed quality metric; and decoding each of the plurality of data streams in the first station according to the data rate for the data stream.
