A method for wireless communications performed by a user equipment (UE) (1002), the method comprising: receiving (902) from a network (1050) the requirements of the channel quality indicator, CQI, to report a CQI; determine (904) whether the CQI should be reported periodically based on the CQI requirements; and scheduling a discontinuous reception activation time, DRX, based on determining and adaptively shortening the active duration of the UE (1002) when reporting the CQI in a first subframe of a DRX activation duration is not required.
