A base station (102) in a wireless communication system (100) that supports a first bandwidth, configured to communicate with at least one terminal (200) configured for machine-type communications, MTC, comprising the base station (102) : a processing circuit configured to identify a category of the at least one terminal, and determine a transmission scheme associated with the MTC based on a category of the at least one terminal, the category being associated with the MTC; and a transmitter configured to transmit, using the determined transmission scheme, a downlink shared physical channel, PDSCH, in a second bandwidth to said at least one terminal (200), in which the second bandwidth is more narrow than the first bandwidth.
