A method for preventing or reducing the erroneous incorporation of norleucine into a protein or polypeptide, the method comprising expressing the protein or polypeptide in a microorganism, wherein the microorganism is a mutant microorganism that produces methionine to a degree or extent sufficient to prevent or reduce the erroneous incorporation of norleucine into the protein or polypeptide, in which the microorganism comprises a mutant metA allele comprising the nucleic acid sequence of SEQ ID NO: 24.
