A method for generating a binaural signal in response to a set of channels of a multi-channel audio input signal, which includes the steps of: (a) applying a response to the binaural impulse of a room, BRIR, to each channel in the set , thereby generating the filtered signals, which includes the use of at least one network (203, 204, 205, 220) of feedback delay to apply a common late reverberation to a downward mixture of the channels of the assembly; and (b) combining the filtered signals to generate the binaural signal, wherein in step (a), the common late reverb portion emulates the collective macro attributes of the late reverb portions of at least some single channel BRIRs. The method also includes a step of imposing control values to the network (203, 204, 205) of feedback delay to establish at least one input gain, reverberation tank gains, reverberation tank delays, or output matrix parameters that establish interaural coherence for said feedback delay network (203, 204, 205), where control values are imposed such that the common late reverberation part emulates collective macro attributes of the late reverberation portions of said at least some single channel BRIRs.
