System and method to control catheter power based on renal ablation response

A renal ablation system, comprising: a catheter comprising one or more electrodes and a detection circuit configured to detect an ablation parameter for each electrode; a controller coupled to the catheter, the controller comprising a processing unit and a memory that stores instructions that, when executed by the processing unit, cause the processing unit to receive an ablation parameter detected for each electrode of the detection circuit ; control a power supplied to each offending electrode to have a reduced power when the respective detected ablation parameter violates a defined ablation parameter; characterized in that said controller is further configured to detect a power reduction rate for each offending electrode; and stop the power supplied to each offending electrode when a respective detected power reduction rate exceeds a power reduction threshold rate.
