A method for monitoring a user interface (5) of a consumer electronics apparatus, said user interface controlling an interaction between a user and said consumer electronics apparatus, comprising receiving complementary information comprising complementary information components to modify the functionality of said user interface and validity information that defines the validity of said complementary information components; storing said components of complementary information and said validity information; modify said user interface using the stored complementary information components, to provide additional commands; and controlling the start time and the end time of the modification of the user interface, by means of said stored validity information, in which the start time and the end time of a complementary information component are controlled for said complementary information component by means of said validity information for said complementary information component.
