The invention relates to chemical technologies, specifically nanoparticles offlame retardantmagnesium hydroxide, and a process for the preparation thereof. The presentnanoparticles of flameretardant magnesium hydroxide, including surface-processed nanoparticles, havea hexagonal plate-like structure with a specific surface area of up to 20 m2/g, an averagediameter of the secondaryparticles of up to 2 µm, an oil carrying capacity of up to 50 g of linseedoil per 100 g of magnesiumhydroxide, a pore volume of up to 10.5 x 10 -3 cm3/g, a diameter of 10 % ofthe secondary particles ofup to 0.8 pm, a diameter of 90 % of the secondary particles of up to 5 µm,with a longitudinal size ofthe primary particles of from 150 to 900 nm, and a thickness of from 15 to 150nm.
