The present invention relates to a novel use of magnetic iron oxide redFe21.333O32 as a catalystin oxidizing methanthiol to prepare dimethyl disulfide. The magnetic ironoxide red Fe21.333O32according to the present invention has extremely high catalytic selectivity incatalyzing andoxidizing methanthiol to prepare dimethyl disulfide. The magnetic iron oxidered Fe21.333O32 isprepared with a carbonate and a ferrite as raw materials, has advantages oflow cost and simplepreparation process, and is suitable for industrial production.
