A method for preparing an energy storage material by using active sludge. The method comprises the following steps: mixing active sludge, a water-soluble trivalent salt and deionized water to obtain a mixture liquid, allowing the mixture liquid to stand or stirring the mixture liquid, so that trivalent chromium ions are permeated to a thallus of zoogloea contained in the active sludge; adjusting the pH to alkali, carrying out suction filtration, washing a filter cake to neutrality, drying and grinding the filter cake, and carrying out temperature-rising calcination in an oxygen-free environment to obtain the energy storage material. The method has the beneficial effects: effective resource utilization of the sludge is achieved, the problem of difficulty in sludge processing is fundamentally resolved, and the production cost of biological carbon is also reduced; the chromium ions are permeated to organisms through cell walls of the living zoogloea, chromium sesquioxide after calcination is wrapped very well by the biological carbon, so that the chromium sesquioxide and the biological carbon are combined very well; and the obtained energy storage material has low production costs and a high capacity, and has good an application prospect in negative electrode materials of lithium-ion batteries.
