The invention relates to a cancellable, anonymous, biometric authentication system based on venous networks, comprising a light source, for illuminating a part of the body of the user, and a detection device, comprising a sensor for non-contact sensing of a venous network of said part of the body of the user, a biometric characteristics extraction unit, and a biometric characteristics conversion unit, the detection device having a unique identifier, the biometric characteristics extraction unit extracting a quantity of characteristics from biometric information obtained by the sensor and generating a vascular fingerprint, characterised in that the conversion unit for converting the characteristics is capable of converting said vascular fingerprint, by means of a coding algorithm combining the identifier of the device with the extracted characteristics, into a variable digital identifier, such that said digital identifier is not linked to said vascular fingerprint of the user and is generated without any identification information of said user and in that said generated digital identifier is specific to said data detection device. The system further comprises a first server which operates in a client/server environment with the detection device and a second server comprising a conversion unit for codes and a correspondence determination unit. The invention further relates to the method implemented in the system as well as the use thereof.
