METHOD OF MINIMIZING MULTICAST TRAFFIC AND PROVIDING FAULT TOLERANCE IN SDN NETWORKS

The invention relates to the field of computer networks. A method of minimizing multicast traffic and providing fault tolerance in SDN networks is characterized in that it involves: identifying multicast groups and active sources of traffic; establishing openflow rules on all the switching devices in a network; receiving igmp messages from a client on a port of a switching device; sending said message to a controller for further analysis; identifying, on the basis of the message received on the controller, the port on which the client requesting a multicast group is located; selecting a source of multicast traffic from a list of sources; building a path from the source to the multicast client according to various criteria; identifying the switching devices on which routing rules must be established; establishing switching rules on the switching devices identified in the previous step; identifying a change in the state of the network by means of the controller; rebuilding a multicast tree according to various criteria, taking into account the network topology updated in the previous step; identifying the presence of clients not receiving multicast traffic; updating the openflow rules on the switching devices so that all clients receive multicast traffic.
