The invention relates to a method (V) for ascertaining the measurement uncertainty (U) of a measuring system (S) which detects a physical measurement variable and has multiple transmission links (G1-G4) that form a measuring chain (K) in order to detect the physical measurement variable, wherein directly adjacent transmission links (G1-G4) in the measuring chain (K) are in a cause-effect relationship with one another. The method has the steps of: a) reading information for identifying the transmission links (G1-G4) of the measuring chain (K) using a computer program product (C); b) reading readable labels of influencing variables (E11 - E42) of the identified transmission links (G1-G4) using the computer program product (C) and ascertaining the relevance of the influencing variables (E11 - E42) of the identified transmission links (G1-G4) to the measurement uncertainty (U) of the measuring system (S) using the computer program product (C); and c) using the influencing variables (E11 - E42) ascertained to be relevant in order to calculate the measurement uncertainty (U) of the measuring system (S) using the computer program product (C).
