A method for determining the location of a new well comprising - tying data chemostratigraphic analysis (44) from well cuttings and well cores with high-resolution elastic wireline data (42) at well locations (22,24, 26) in the reservoir (R), - determining suitable seismic attributes for mapping the desired chemostratigraphic property, by performing pre- and/or post-stack inversions durinng rock physics analysis (45), - deriving a multi-attribute template (T), from the well data, to characterize the reservoir in terms of its chemostratigraphic properties, - inverting a set of seismic data (54) to map the chemostratigraphic signatures of reservoir in three dimensions (56) and - determining a location for a new well based on the map of chemostratigraphic signatures and drilling the well.
