Disclosed are an apparatus and a method for determining an edge position on the basis of adaptive weighting of gradients (AWG). A method for determining an edge position according to an embodiment of the present invention comprises the steps of: determining, on the basis of the edge width of an edge profile in an image, a multiplier to be applied to a gradient of the edge profile in order to determine an edge position; generating the gradient by calculating a differential value between adjacent pixel values of the edge profile; and determining the edge position by applying the multiplier determined on the basis of the edge width to the gradient.
