The invention relates to a method for producing a surface-active mixture comprising condensation products, wherein an α-hydroxycarboxylic acid with 3 to 6 carbon atoms is reacted with at least one 1,2 alkanediol. The invention further relates to a surface-active mixture which can be produced or has been produced by the method according to the invention. The invention also relates to the use of the mixture which can be or has been produced by the method according to the invention as a surfactant and/or emulsifier, preferably in washing or cleaning agents and/or in cosmetic products. The invention finally relates to a washing or cleaning agent and a cosmetic product, each of which containing a mixture which can be produced or has been produced according to the method claimed.
