The invention relates to an energy supply system (4) for an underwater vehicle (1), in particular for a submarine or an unmanned underwater vehicle, comprising a fuel cell system (10), which can be operated with pure hydrogen or with a hydrogen-containing gas as a first operating gas and with pure oxygen or an oxygen-containing gas as a second operating gas, an operating gas container (13) for one of the two operating gases, said operating gas container (13) being fluidically connected to the fuel cell system (10), and a gas receiving device (14) for receiving boil-off gas from the operating gas container (13). According to the invention, the fuel cell system (10) at least comprises - a first fuel cell device (11) and - a second fuel cell device (12), wherein the first fuel cell device (11) and the second fuel cell device (12) can be connected to the operating gas container (13) and/or the gas receiving device (14) in a fluidically separated manner from each other. Thus, boil-off gas can be optimally used, thereby allowing a long service life of the underwater vehicle.
