The present invention relates to bimetal complexes with divalent cations with an inhibiting effect on the replication of the herpes simplex virus (HSV) in a short period of time and with greater efficiency, which complexes have greater stability and can be produced at a low cost on a large scale. The bimetal complexes with divalent cations have formula X-Z-Q, wherein: X is a divalent metal selected from Co2+, Ca2+, Cu2+, Zn2+ and Fe2+; Z is a divalent metal selected from Mn2+, Ni2+, Sn2+, Pd2+ and Cr2+; and Q is a chelate selected from glycolate, citrate, edetate, malate or gluconate.
