Disclosed in the present invention is a sketch-based shape-preserving tree deformation animation method, comprising: creating a three-dimensional tree model; representing the three-dimensional tree model in the form of a framework and tree leaf clusters; selecting a viewing angle of interest, detecting a tree-crown silhouette outline of the three-dimensional tree model, drawing on a sketch the target tree-crown silhouette outline of a deformation animation, gradually deforming the tree-crown silhouette outline of the three-dimensional tree model into the target tree-crown silhouette outline of the deformation animation, and transferring the deformation of the tree-crown silhouette outline of the three-dimensional tree model to the branches, so as to obtain a smooth tree deformation process; and recording, frame by frame, the deformation process of the tree-crown silhouette outline and the branches, so as to obtain a shape-preserving tree deformation animation. The present invention maintains tree topology consistency and tree-crown morphology significance, and also provides an intuitive three-dimensional tree editing operation, such that a three-dimensional tree model can be effectively edited only by drawing a simple sketch.
