Provided are a 3D MSP-based biometric apparatus and a method thereof. The biometric apparatus according to the present invention comprises: a light source irradiating light on a wrist of a user; an image sensor detecting light diffused and reflected from the wrist to generate an optical detection pattern; a lens placing a focus of the image sensor at a specific depth in the wrist; and a control part controlling the lens and the image sensor so that the focus of the image sensor moves sequentially to different depths inside the wrist to generate the light detection patterns, thereby significantly increasing an identification rate by increasing resolution for individual identification according to biometric identification based on 3D MSP.;COPYRIGHT KIPO 2019
