A passivating method to achieve high conversion of heavy hydrocarbons with low sediment yield

A passivating method for hydrogen conversion of heavy hydrocarbon feedstocks that provides high conversion of heavy hydrocarbons with low precipitate yields is disclosed. The process uses small particles of a particularly limited shaped hydrotreating catalyst as the catalyst bed, contacting the heavy hydrocarbon feedstock under hydrogenation conditions and exhibiting a relatively low precipitate content and achieving hydrocarbon conversion.
