A method for detecting overloaded vehicles by a smart load system according to one embodiment of the present invention includes an analyzing unit for analyzing a model of a vehicle through a first sensor unit for measuring a weight of the vehicle and a second sensor unit for detecting an appearance of the vehicle. The method for detecting overloaded vehicles by a smart load system comprises the steps of: measuring the weight of the vehicle by the first sensor unit which comes into contact with wheels of the vehicle; detecting the appearance of the vehicle passing a predetermined road by the second sensor unit; determining a contact area and a contact cycle when the analyzing unit receives the weight, deriving a first vehicle model corresponding to information on a lower part of the vehicle based on the contact cycle and the contact area, and deriving a second vehicle model corresponding to information on an upper part of the vehicle based on the appearance of the vehicle; and calculating a load of the vehicle by adding up all the weights measured from the contact cycle by the analyzing unit when the first model corresponds to the second vehicle model, and comparing the load with an allowable overload defined by the first vehicle model to determine the overloaded vehicle.
