PPG Apparatus and method for Respiration detection using PPG signal

The present invention relates to an apparatus, as a wearable device, for measuring a PPG signal by using a photodiode under an index fingertip to determine a breathing state and measure a breathing rate with improved accuracy by using a PPG signal pattern through processing and analysis of extracted data, and a method thereof. The apparatus comprises: a PPG measuring device measuring a change in a blood flow rate by irradiating light to a predetermined measurement body part and sensing reflected light to generate a PPG signal; a type analysis part detecting a peak of breathing in a PPG signal pattern through processing analysis of the PPG signal measured in the PPG measuring device; and a breathing detection part detecting breathing based on the peak of breathing detected in a pattern of the PPG signal analyzed in the type analysis part.
