The present invention relates to an apparatus and a method for detecting a GSE packet. According to an embodiment of the present invention, the apparatus comprises: a satellite stream input unit for receiving a satellite stream and converting the same into bits; a DVB-S2 frame detecting unit for performing a field inspection by performing bit-shifting for the converted frame, and detecting a DVB-S2 frame through the field inspection; and a GSE packet detecting unit for storing the detected DVB-S2 frame, and detecting a GSE packet in the DVB-S2 frame. The GSE packet detecting unit determines whether the GSE packet not satisfying a predetermined GSE field condition table exists in another DVB-S2 frame when the GSE packet not satisfying the predetermined GSE field condition table is detected in the DVB-S2 frame.
