Described is a computer-implemented technique for generating a visual display that represents the flow of user content within a social network. The technique may include determining user content associated with a plurality of users. The technique may further comprise generating a visual display comprising an area for each of the plurality of users. The technique may also include placing regions in the visual display in accordance with the set of layout rules, and placing a direction indicator in the visual display. The technique may include providing a visual display to a user via a display.
