The present invention relates to a pharmaceutical composition and a functional health food for preventing or treating thrombosis, comprising extracts of Nelumbo nucifera leaf, and more specifically, to a pharmaceutical composition and a functional health food for preventing or treating/alleviating thrombosis through potent platelet coagulation suppression and blood coagulation suppression, which comprise, as active ingredients, hot water extracts or ethanol extracts of Nelumbo nucifera leaf, hexene fractions thereof, ethyl acetate fractions thereof, and butanol fractions thereof. The extracts of Nelumbo nucifera leaf, as the active ingredients of the pharmaceutical composition and the functional health food for preventing or treating thrombosis of the present invention, show potent anti-thrombotic activities due to inhibitory activities on platelet coagulation, which serves to initiate thrombus formation, as well as inhibitory activities on thrombus formation-associated enzymes and blood-clotting factors, while showing no hemolytic activity to human erythrocytes; have excellent thermal stability; and show no decrease in inhibitory activities on blood-clotting factors and inhibitory activities on thrombus formation-associated enzyme, even in an acidic environment at pH 2 and in blood plasma, and thus, may be beneficially used in a pharmaceutical composition and a functional health food that prevent or treat thrombosis, such as ischemic stroke and hemorrhagic stroke, through improving blood circulation.
