A flash thermography device (40) for generating an infrared image of a turbine component located within a turbine (10) is disclosed. The device includes a flash enclosure 46 having an aperture 48. A flash source 50 is located at the aperture, which generates a light pulse that heats the turbine component. The device also includes an infrared sensor 42 for detecting the thermal energy emitted by the turbine component and the radiated heat energy is transmitted to the infrared sensor via the aperture so that the generation of the infrared image of the turbine component .
