A remote distributed antenna system using reference signals in its wireless backhaul

There is provided a distributed antenna system for frequency shifting the output of one or more microcells in a frequency range of 60 GHz or more for transmission to a distributed antenna set. The cellular band output of such a microcell base station device is used to calculate a subcarrier group for a 60 GHz carrier by modulating a 60 GHz (or higher) carrier. This group is then transmitted wirelessly through an analog microwave RF device, which may then be emitted or repeated to the surrounding area. The repeater amplifies the signal and retransmits it back to the next repeater wirelessly. Where a microcell is required, the 60 GHz signal is frequency shifted back to its original frequency (e.g., the 1.9 GHz cellular band) and is locally released to neighboring mobile devices.
