The present invention relates to an apparatus for position recognition and leveling of a platform for a ship lift and a method thereof, which apply a wire encoder respectively to a plurality of hydraulic cylinders lifting the platform provided to the ship lift for launching a submarine in upper and lower directions. Therefore, the apparatus for position recognition and leveling of the platform for the ship lift and the method thereof are possible to determine a final descent distance of the platform based on respective variation of the wire encoder and horizontality of the platform under water and especially to determine whether an obstacle is on a lower side through a pressure sensor applied to a respective hydraulic cylinder when the platform descends, thereby exactly identifying horizontality of the platform under water.;COPYRIGHT KIPO 2019
