According to an embodiment of the present invention, provided is a method for estimating a motion in encoding of a depth image through plane modeling, which comprises the steps of: dividing a current screen on an image plane having an object and a background projected on a camera coordinate system into a target block of an m*n (m and n are a positive integer) size; searching for an i*j (i and j are a positive integer equal to or greater than m and n) of a reference screen on the image plane to select a reference block of the m*n size; detecting information on a first plane of the target block and information on a second plane of the reference block on the basis of a coordinate value of the object; projecting the first and second planes onto a reference plane; calculating a difference signal between a first projected depth value of the projected first plane, and a second projected depth value of the projected second plane; and encoding at least one of a motion vector in accordance with a displacement of the difference signal, the target block and the reference block, and the plane information.
