The present invention relates to a liquid crystal aligning agent for optical orientation containing a polymer having a constituent unit including a photosensitive group represented by formula (1). According to the present invention, the liquid crystal aligning agent can form a liquid crystal alignment film which exhibits a high liquid crystal aligning properties and also has a high transmittance. The present invention also provides a new photosensitive diamine which is a raw material of a polymer used as the liquid crystal aligning agent for optical orientation. In formula (1), R^1 and R^2 are independently hydrogen or an alkyl having 1 to 10 carbon atoms, and a binding bond, of which a coupling position is not fixed to any one carbon forming a ring, exhibits that the coupling position in the ring is arbitrary, and hydrogen of a benzene ring may be substituted by a substituent.;COPYRIGHT KIPO 2019
