The present invention relates to a food composition for decreasing the expression of the PCSK9 gene or increasing an amount of the low density lipoprotein receptor (LDLR), comprising butein or isoeugenol. The composition of the present invention inhibits the expression of the PCSK9 gene which is increased by statin-based compounds, and has an effect of increasing the amount of LDLR and consequently lowering a blood cholesterol level, thereby capable of being utilized for prevention or amelioration of metabolic diseases such as obesity, type 2 diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular diseases or hyperlipemia.
