The present invention relates to a nanorod-shaped positive electrode active material for a lithium secondary battery represented by chemical formula 1, a method for manufacturing the same, and a lithium secondary battery comprising the positive electrode active material. The chemical formula 1 is represented by LiNi_1-x-yMn_xM_yO_2, wherein M is at least one metal selected from a group consisting of Co, Mg, Mn, Al, and Cr, x is greater than 0.5 and less than 1, and y is equal to or greater than 0 and equal to or less than 0.1. According to the present invention, the life stability can be maximized.
