The present invention relates to a pharmaceutical composition for preventing or treating non-alcoholic fatty liver or obesity, which contains coumestrol as an active component. The coumestrol inhibits blood triglycerides from being absorbed into hepatocytes by chylomicrons, thereby inducing triglycerides to remain in the blood, inhibiting the accumulation of fats in the liver, and reducing weight, increased in high-fat diet specifically, to a normal level.
