The present invention benefits from a determination that a pre-selected spectral bandwidth that avoids the spectrum of the electron transition of the metal / alloy vapors enables near-zero residue welding that can discolor the weld. Accordingly, the present invention provides an analytical method, a welding method, and a fiber laser configured to provide a high quality metal / alloy weld.
