The present invention provides activated carbon for a supercapacitor electrode containing ash-free carbon (AFC) and metal oxide dispersed in the ash-free carbon. According to the present invention, the activated carbon for a supercapacitor electrode is made of ash-free carbon from which ash is removed to have excellent electric conductivity. Also, since the ash-free carbon contains a plurality of carboxyl groups (COOH), the metal oxide can be properly dispersed. Therefore, an electrode for a supercapacitor containing the activated carbon has excellent electric conductivity and energy density. The ash-free carbon is manufactured by thermal extraction using an organic solvent. A type of a carbon material of extracted coal can be variously manufactured in accordance with a polarity or a chemical structure of a solvent used. Also, since properties of the ash-free carbon can be changed by extraction conditions (temperature and/or pressure), ash-free carbon of various properties can be introduced.
