The present application relates to a portable bite part (230) for determining an imaging area (204) of a patient (201) in panoramic, computed tomography, or cephalometric X-ray imaging. The bite part (230) includes a first end part (233) and a second end part (234). The bit part has known dimensions. The first end part (233) is configured to be disposed in the mouth (202) of a patient (201). The bite part further includes markers (231, 232). The first end part is configured to indicate an area inside the mouth. The markers are configured to be disposed outside the mouth (202). The markers can recognize positions of the markers. Accordingly, it is possible to calculate a position (205) of the first end part (233) for an X-ray imaging unit (100) using the positions of the markers (231, 232) and the known dimensions.
