Disclosed is an electronic device which comprises: a first camera having a first field of view and disposed on one surface of the electronic device; a second camera having a second field of view included in the first field of view, and disposed on the one surface; and a processor. The processor is configured to: obtain a request associated with biometric authentication; obtain, at least based on the request, one or more first images corresponding to the first field of view by using the first camera; obtain, at least base on the request, one or more second images corresponding to the second field of view by using the second camera; confirm, when the one or more first images are obtained, a first external object associated with the biometric authentication among one or more external objects included in the one or more first images; and provide, when the one or more second images are obtained, and the second object associated with the biometric authentication, which is at least a part of the first external object, is not included in the one or more second images, notification information which enables the one or more second images in which the second external object is included to be obtained. In addition, various embodiments of the present invention are possible. According to the present invention, the electronic device can efficiently perform the biometric authentication by adaptively using a plurality of authentication methods.
