Lipid-coated metal nanoparticles are synthesized through an aqueous-organic phase transfer. The aqueous-organic phase transfer occurs through a ligand exchange using a ligand which have a strong affinity for the metal used, and a lipid is assembled to a particle surface through hydrophobic interactions with a hydrocarbon chain on a metal nanoparticle surface. Since the synthesis method uses pre-synthesized metal nanoparticles in an aqueous solution state, a shape, a size, and a composition of the particles are easy to control, and no additional process is required for removing particles which are not lipid coated and can be manufactured in high yields.
