The present invention relates to a novel Berryteuthis magister-derived delta-4 desaturase gene, an expression vector comprising the gene, a transformant transformed with the expression vector, and a method for producing the transformant. According to the present invention, the delta-4 desaturase gene derived from Berryteuthis magister is isolated, and the function thereof is confirmed. Thus, the present invention can be applied to metabolic engineering techniques for producing polyunsaturated fatty acids of omega-3 such as EPA or DHA when used in oil crops such as perilla containing alpha linoleic acid (ALA).
