a computer aided method for generating transferred patterns for garment draped on an avatar

A method of efficiently transforming a source pattern for a garment draped on a source avatar into a target pattern that can be draped on a new target avatar is proposed. The target pattern is generated directly from the deformation of the source pattern, instead of smoothing the modeling of a target garment. According to one aspect, a target strain tensor representing a deformation between the mesh of a source pattern and the corresponding mesh of a target garment is obtained from an avatar transformation value. A pattern strain tensor is obtained from the target strain tensor and a source strain tensor. A target pattern is generated by multiplying the pattern strain tensor and the source pattern.
