The present invention provides a smart water metering system and a method thereof, wherein the smart water metering system comprises: a water meter installed in a consumer house; an Internet of Things (IoT) terminal connected to the water meter via a digital medium; a relay connected to the IoT terminal via an LoRa communication network and collecting metering data for an amount of water usage of the water meter transmitted by the IoT terminal; an IoT platform receiving the metering data transmitted by the IoT terminal via the relay; a control server connected to the IoT platform via a virtual private network (VPN), and extracting and storing the metering data received by the IoT platform; a charge management server connected to the control server and receiving the metering data from the control server to calculate water charges of the water meter; and a consumer house side customer terminal transmitting received new firmware data to the IoT terminal via low power Bluetooth (BLE) communications to enable existing firmware to be upgraded.
