According to the present invention, a method for processing 360 degree image data performed by an apparatus for transmitting 360 degree video comprises the steps of: receiving 360 degree image data for a plurality of viewing positions within viewing space; deriving information and metadata about an encoded picture for a specific viewing position; decoding the encoded picture based on the information about the encoded picture; and rendering the decoded picture based on the metadata. The metadata includes viewing space information for the specific viewing position. The viewing space information includes information representing shape type of the viewing space.
