The present invention relates to an apparatus and a method for controlling tension stress of an active bridge girder based on big data. The purpose of the present invention is to improve durability of a bridge girder by reducing tension stress of a bridge girder by applying tension through a tension material only when a load is increased due to an excessive load or an increase in traffic volume, while enduring a load by self-load carrying capacity of the bridge girder without tension stress of a tension material in the usual time. According to the present invention, the apparatus comprises: a database (10) which measures a load applied to a bridge girder and stores event information of an allowable load or more which requires a tension work among measurement values together with time information; a tension material (20) which is installed on the bridge girder in a tensile direction and reduces tension stress generated in the bridge girder; an actuator (30) which pulls at least one of both longitudinal sides of the tension material in a tension direction and makes tension or releases tension from a tension state to release tension stress; and a controller (40) which tensions the tension material through control of the actuator to reduce the tension stress of the bridge girder when current time information is matched with the time information of the event information after comparing the time information of the event information stored in the database with the current time information, and returns the tension material through control of the actuator when the time information of the event information passes. Therefore, the bridge girder is set on the basis of self-load carrying capacity of the bridge girder, and the bridge girder is tensioned when a load greater than or equal to an allowable load occurs in the bridge girder, and thus it is possible to reduce tension stress of the bridge girder.
