PROCESS FOR REGENERATION OF SPENT ZIRCONIUM PHOSPHATE FOR REUSE IN SORBENT TREATMENTS

A method of regenerating waste zirconium phosphate for reuse in adsorbent dialysis or for other reuse as an adsorbent material is provided. The method comprises contacting the pumped zirconium phosphate with a solution of an aqueous disinfectant comprising at least one antimicrobial agent and treating the resulting disinfected zirconium phosphate with an acidic solution to remove the treated zirconium phosphate that can be reused as the adsorbent material . An adsorbent cartridge product comprising the recycled zirconium phosphate is also provided. Additionally, there is provided an adsorbent dialysis method and system for reusing recycled zirconium phosphate as part of an adsorbent cartridge.
