A liquid crystal optical device is provided. The optical device includes a liquid crystal cell that controls the optical properties of light passing therethrough and has: a liquid crystal layer (a planar electrode is located on one side of the liquid crystal layer); an opposing side of the liquid crystal layer And a wavefront adjustment structure configured to provide optical in-phase wavefront adjustment. In some embodiments, the wavefront adjustment structure is a conductive floating electrode. In yet another embodiment, the wavefront adjustment structure is a weakly conductive structure having a space-variable sheet resistance. In yet another embodiment, the weakly conductive structure of the wavefront adjusting structure has a space-variable sheet resistance with frequency-dependent characteristics.
