The present invention relates to an interior permanent magnet synchronous motor (IPMSM) vector control apparatus based on model predictive current control and a method thereof. The IPMSM vector control apparatus mixes a PI control method and a brief model predictive current control method to increase output dynamic characteristics and reduce switching loss in a torque transient section. To this end, the IPMSM vector control apparatus uses a PI controller in a normal state section for switching operation of a three-dimensional voltage inverter operating an IPMSM and uses a brief model predictive current controller in the transient state section to perform current control. According to the present invention, dynamic characteristics increase, switching loss reduction, and stable current control are possible when vector control of the IPMSM.
